On Solaris 2.6:


# ./ethereal -F

works fine. That is, everything works normally.


# ./ethereal -F -S
User Signal 2


As soon as I get the first packet, "User Signal 2" is printed and my
main ethereal window is not usable. If I stop the capture, no file is
loaded into the ethereal GUI. "re-load" does nothing.
