Hi Gilbert,

I worried too. (Thats why I wrote a message about a new release couple of weeks ago)

I think we should release a new version of ethereal on our own.
BUT: I question that this implies to imediatly change to a new cvs server.
Gerald gave me my account on pow for developing Ethereal and
commiting patches into cvs. This is what I ll continue to do.

Of course we should think about what happens next....
...

What we need for the new release is a new homepage. I can offer ethereal.boehm.org
which has been the official mirror for some month (I could also offer hostnames
or subdomains form insecurity.net)

BTW:
I have got webspace too (64kBit at home and aprox. 2 Mbit on a server which
might cease working sooner or later (my former home-ISP allowed me to set up a box
in their LAN without a fee (and it is still there) ) )

BUT: maybe we can find a sponsor for ethereal (I already have one in mind)

To sum up:
I would:
    1) Inform Gerald of the steps we will take
    2) prepare a release of ethereal with the current CVS server (taging it with a new release tag)
    3) release the new version on a new Webserver (I could provide a subdomain and maybe webspace)
    4) announce it on freshmeat (with the new address)
    5) prepare a new CVS server
    6) switch over to the new CVS Server
